Us first #OZelive

February 22, 2014

iamattending150x150.fwThis morning’s keynote addressing The Learning Revolution by Steve Hargadon (recording is here) opened with the historical context of education as an industrial model:

It was a 5am dive-in, so I may not have been functioning on all cylinders. The actual conference hashtag stream can be accessed here; trawl the schedule for practical advice and inspiration. My lightbulb moment came when Steve defined the democratization of learning spaces as the process of pushing responsibility down from the institution to the individual.

Sounds like renaissance/ shift/ blueprint for change.

Where to begin?

Us first. Based on the extended metaphor of an oxygen mask being applied in an emergency situation – not just adults saving children – rather our modelling as a means of encouraging young people to do what we do:

  • engage in social learning practices;
  • shape learning spaces;
  • make meaningful change happen;
  • activate learning.
