Leadbeater on Innovation

This 2005 TED talk offers a condensed version of ideas Leadbeater developed later in We-Think; his message is optimistic and empowering:

  • Mass collaboration is emergent, and overcoming constraints of mass production
  • Innovators are driven by passion
  • Technology is enabling
  • Change is causing cultural shifts

So where does that leave us in education? If we replace the word game in the following quote with “school”, we might have a signpost….

What you can do to make the game more successful is not to make the game better, but to make the community better.

Designer Will Wright (p.106)

Thus, maintain focus on innovation within our schools, and draw on collaborative efforts as a community of learners to inform change.

"For the perfect flâneur, for the passionate observer, it's an immense pleasure to take up residence in multiplicity, in whatever is seething, moving, evanescent and infinite: you're not at home, but you feel at home everywhere, you're at the centre of everything yet you remain hidden from everybody."
